Goa Fire Service Training Centre
Goa fire service training centre came in to existance only after the establishment of Directorate of Fire & Emergency Service in the year 1984, until than the Fire Service which worked adjunct to the police. Department was ill-trained and ill-equiped to meet the growing challenges and responsibilities. A land admeasuring 16,994 Sq.mtr. was acquired for developing the infra structure for training. In the beginning, Goa fire training centre started Fireman course of six months duration for the recruit of the local service and later on expanded training activities with the participants of the other state department Fire Service. At present Goa Fire Service-Training centre conducts 15 different tailored training courses for various categories for industrial and in-service personnel in Fire safety management on regular basis. The Goa Fire Service-Training centre has been identified as regional training centrefor conducting Junior officers course Sub-officers course by Government on India, Ministry of Home Affairs.
Goa Fire & Emergency service have yet added another feather to its cap by commencing a unique professional degree course in Fire service discipline, BSc-Fire Technology of 3 ˝ years duration. The said course have commenced from the Academic year 2004-05 with full strength of 25 candidates from Goa and other regions.

B. Sc. FIRE TECHNOLOGY DEGREE COURSE :
FIRST OF ITS KIND IN INDIA WITH STATE FIRE SERVICE COLLABORATION
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In view of the acute shortage of Fire Technologist and Fire Engineers in the country the Director of Fire & Emergency Services Dr. P.K. John had initiated proposal for commencing Graduate degree course in Fire Engineering with Goa University in collaboration with Defence-Institute of Fire research, Defence Research and Development Organisation, New Delhi and Goa Directorate of Fire Services. At the instance of the Director, then Vice-Chancellor of Goa University Prof. Ncivin C. Nigam wrote letter to Mr. A.K. Suri, then Director, D.LF.R. on 26.04.1996 regarding the feasibilities of starting the said course. But the response was not known.
Since the proposal was not materializing, vide letter dated 09.08.1999 a proposal was submitted for commencing an advanced Diploma Course in Fire Protection Engineering for University Graduates by the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services in association with Institution of Fire Engineers (UK), South West India Brancli to Director of Technical Education Govt. of Goa. The Directomte of Technical Education was not venj enthusiastic about the proposal.
Thereafter Dr. P. K. ]ohn had contacted Chairman of Dempo Charity Trust's Shri Srinivas Dempo and explored the feasibility of commencing 3Ąz -year degree course in Fire Technology at Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Miramar. Accordingly the Dhempe College submitted a proposal on 02,11.2000 to Government of Goa evincing interest in the said degree course.
On 23.11.2000 Government agreed in principle to the proposal received from Dhempe College and subsequently vide Government order dated 12.09.2001 8 posts of various categories were created for conducting the course. The M.O.U. was signed on 26.03.2002 between the Government and Dempo Charities Trust to commence the course.
The first batch ofB.Sc. Fire technology started from the academic year 2004-05 with full strength of 25 candidates from Goa and other states,
On 14.09.2004 Shri. Manohar Parrikar, Hon. Chief Minister of Goa, formally inaugurated the course at the Directorate of Fire Services. The degree course is affiliated to the Goa University.
