| Governor's Note |
|
There is already a realization within the country that every effort has to be made to provide a safety cover against fire disasters, which take a heavy toll of life and property every year across the county. Similarly, it is well understood that rapid industrialization and urbanization are largely responsible for growing number of fire tragedies.
Goa, too, has witnessed rapid urbanization and industrialization since Liberation. Thus, the possibilities of fire hazards have also grown to a large extent. The congested municipal markets and unplanned human habitats besides large industrial units need to be monitored on a continuous basis for the purpose of preventing possible fire tragedies. Similarly, adequate care has to be taken in our Spatial Planning to ensure total safety of the life and property of the people. This is one area, which calls for regular monitoring.
The Firemen and the Staff attached to the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services of Goa have done a commendable job by providing prompt relief to the people caught in fire accidents and other tragedies besides creating the necessary awareness among the people about fire hazards. However, there is a need for continuous process of up-gradation of skills coupled with motivation of the Firemen so as to equip them to face emerging challenges.
My best wishes to the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, its staff and the men in the field on the occasion of the National Fire Services Day, which is to be followed by the Fire Prevention Week. |
