I am very delighted to know that Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services is observing National Fire Service Day in Goa on April 14, 2011.

Observance of Fire Service Day is an appropriate occasion to pay homage to Firemen who have sacrificed their lives during the course of duty.  Firemen put their lives to risk to save lives and properties from fire and other natural disasters such as earthquake, landslides, floods, cyclone etc. It is therefore imperative to create fire safety awareness among the people.

I am confident, that the weeklong fire prevention week will go a long way to enlighten the people and particularly the working class to take up precautionary measures and ensure safety at home and work places.  The theme for the National Fire Service Day “Let’s Work Together for Fire Safe India” will enlighten the masses about the importance and destruction cause to human lives and properties due to incidence of fire.
