FIRE PREVENTION, FIRE PROTECTION AND RESPONSE ARRANGEMENTS LUSOFONIA GAMES GOA 2014

         In view of the upcoming Lusofonia Games Goa - 2014 at various venues in the State, the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services has made elaborate arrangements for Fire Prevention, Fire Control and other Emergencies at all Event locations.

          All the Event venues namely Multi Purpose Indoor Hall, Goa University Complex, Taleigao, Athletic Track Complex, GMC Complex, Bambolim, , Multi Purpose Hall and Athletic Track Complex, Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa, Tilak Maidan, Vasco and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao have been inspected for assessing Fire Protection/Safety requirements, and appropriate precautions taken by installing active and passive fire protection measures. Contingencies requiring evacuation of people, appropriate Evacuation signages as per International Standards indicating the evacuation route for smooth and orderly evacuation is set up in appropriate locations at the venues.

          A total of Eight(8) Water Tenders, Four(4) Quick Response Vehicles, Six(6) Motor Cycle Response Units, One(1) 32 Mtrs. Aerial Ladder Platform and 200 Fire Fighters, including Officers are deployed for First Response for the games.

          The new infrastructure erected for the games at various location the Active Fire Protection arrangements include installation of dedicated Fire Water Tanks, External Fire Hydrants, Wet Risers with Landing Valves, Hose Reel Hose, Smoke Detectors, Fire Alarm Systems and Sprinklers.

             The Asst. Divisional Officer, District Fire Station Panaji, Shri Rajendra Haldankar is designated as the Incident Commander for the Venue in North Goa and he will be assisted by Asst. Incident Commanders Shri Shailesh Gawade, Shri Namdev Dhargalkar, Shri M.B.A. Ferrao and Shri Dattaram D. Redkar, all Station Fire Officers.

          The Asst. Divisional Officer, District Fire Station Margao Shri Nitin V. Raikar is designated as Incident Commander for the venue in South Goa and he will be assisted by Asstt. Incident Commanders Shri Francisco Mendes and     Shri Rupes Sawant, both Station Fire Officers.

          The overall Fire Protection Response Arrangements for all the Games Venues are done under the direction and supervision of Shri Ashok Menon, Director, Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, assisted by Shri Ajit K. Kamat, Station Fire Officer, Fire Prevention Cell/Nodal Officer, Lusofonia Secretariat.
