36th STANDING FIRE ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING GOA-2014

          The 36th Meeting of the Standing Fire Advisory Council (SFAC), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India was organised by the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Goa on 31st October’2014 and 1st November’2014.

            The Standing Fire Advisory Council (SFAC) is an apex body set up by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs to advise on Fire Service related matters. The Director General (Fire Service, Civil Defence & Home Guards) is the Chairman of the Council. Fire Adviser is Member Secretary and all the Heads of Fire Services in the States/UTs, PSU’s and Central Government are the Members of the Council. The SFAC was constituted in the year 1955. The decisions taken in the SFAC meetings are the guidelines for the Fire and Emergency Services in the Country for setting up of Fire Stations, recommending Fire and Emergency appliances in addition to creating paraphernalia for Fire Services in the Country.

            Shri Rajendra Arlekar, Speaker, Goa Legislative Assembly inaugurated the 36th Meeting of the Standing Fire Advisory Council. Key note address was delivered by Shri Rajiva Ranjan Verma, IPS, Director General (FS, CD & HG), Government of India and Shri R.K. Srivastava, Principal Secretary (Revenue) and Officiating Chief Secretary, Government of Goa. Shri Ashok Menon, Director, Goa Fire & Emergency Services welcomed the gathering.

The Director General, Directors, Chief Fire Officers of all State Fire & Emergency Services, Union Territories & PSUs who are members of the SFAC attended the meeting. 

            48 Agenda Points including Common Uniform for the Fire and Emergency Services, norms for Fire Station Buildings, Fire Appliances and Equipment, Response Time, Training Policy, Specifications of Specialised Equipment, framing of a Central Legislation on Fire Safety in the Country, Fire Safety Bill, Organizational issues of the Fire and Emergency Services in the Country etc. were discussed in the meeting.

            Shri Rajiva Ranjan Verma, IPS, Director General (FS, CD  & HG), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs met the Hon. Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar on 03.11.2014  and apprised about the deliberation made in the 36th Meeting of the Standing Fire Advisory Council and presented him with a Memento. Shri Ashok Menon, Director, Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services was present during the meeting.
