NATIONAL FIRE SERVICE DAY 14TH APRIL 2011

The National Fire Service Day was observed at the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Fire Force Headquarters, St. Inez, Panaji on 14th April 2011. Shri. Ravi S. Naik, Home Minister, Govt. of Goa was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Shri. S K. Srivastava, IAS Chief Secretary, Govt. of Goa presided over the function. A guard of honour was presented to the Chief Guest who took the salute and inspected the parade.

 

On the eve of National Fire Service Day the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services organized a Poster Competition for children above the age group 0f 7 years up to the age of 14 years in the state of Goa. The entries were divided into two groups Group –I (7 to 10 years) and Group- II (11 to 14 years). The theme for the poster competition for Group- I were “Fire Safety Precautions taken by Children “ and Group-II were “Fire Safety and Emergency Precautions in schools”. Wide publicity was given in the print media for participating in the competition. 239 children from various places in Goa participated in the poster competition. Floral tributes were placed at the Martyr’s Column on the National Fire Service Day. A Half Marathon Race of 21 kms was also organized to spread the theme “LETS WORK TOGETHER FOR FIRE SAFE INDIA”.

 

A Total of 150 participants from Army, Police, Fire Service, Sea Scan Maritime Academy and General Public participated in the Half Marathon race. On the occasion Commendatory notes were awarded to the Fire personnel bearing Good Discipline, Devotion to Duty and for showing Exemplary Courage while attending Fire & Emergency related incidents. 13 Fire Personnel received the award. Demonstrations on various events of tactical fire fighting, Arresting of Chlorine Leakage, Collapsed Structure Search & rescue by using rescue tools and Victim Location Unit, Emergency Medical Services by Medical First Responder Team, Rescue by using Rescue Chute from height , Fire Fighting using Quick response vehicle with water mist technology were demonstrated. An exhibition on fire fighting, Search and Rescue equipments and Personal Protective equipment was also arranged for the general public. Large number of participants accompanied by children besides the invitees attended the program.

 

The Electronic and Print Media covered the programme and also gave wide publicity.
